Origin: Guatemalan coffees are among the world's most sought-after coffees due to their flavor characteristics. The company SERTINSA SA operates so-called "beneficios"—dehulling plants and other coffee processing facilities—in La Antigua, among other locations. Small farmers sell and ship their harvest there.
The picturesque town of La Antigua is a cultural and historical attraction of the country. It is surrounded by three periodically active volcanoes, which still pose a serious threat to the region's inhabitants. The town was destroyed by an earthquake in 1773. However, the subsequently rebuilt town center has survived to this day and was declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations in 1979.
Thanks to excellent climatic conditions and fertile volcanic soils, Arabica varieties such as "Bourbon" and "Catuai" thrive in the region at over 1,500 meters above sea level. The flavor profile of these coffees is particularly complex—depending on the degree of roasting, extremely different nuances emerge. This coffee is best enjoyed as a single variety to appreciate its unique complexity and aromatic density.
Taste: The slightly bitter bean with dark chocolate and citrus fruit notes is particularly characterized by its long-lasting body on the palate.
